People. We’re a wonderful creation. Some people you love, some people you love a little less (!). Some people you choose to include in life, others are there and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Some people life others up by encouraging and inspiring while others pull people down through negativity and energy sapping. Whatever types of people you encounter today at work, at home or even at the grocery store one thing remains true…

You have a choice in every interaction about what kind of ‘person’ you are to them

Everyone knows that excitement or enthusiasm they feel when they’re around optimistic, glass half full types of personalities, we actually look for traits like that in our interviewing process at WorkLodge. They just bring energy to a room, life to every situation and they generally make others feel better about the interaction which is why we like to be around them. What’s interesting is that very few people jump out of bed each day and instantly become that person. It’s usually a choice, a skill that’s learned in how to manage their emotions and feelings, in how to be the kind of person they want to be.

It’s something I’ve been working on for a while now, reading what I can (books like The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team  by Jon Gordon are a great place to start). By listening to what I can and looking for ways I can modify my sometimes laser focus and single-minded approach to not forget that there are others around me when I’m in ‘the zone’. I sure don’t have it figured out yet and suspect it’s something I’ll always be trying to improve, but taking even one step forward at a time is exactly that, it’s one step forward which is better than staying the same or worse, going backwards.

So I encourage you today that if you’re like me, stick with it, keep hustling to improve so you uplift more, encourage more and inspire more. Learn to slow down in the moment and be aware that you have the ability, and a responsibility in every moment to ‘Be Amazing!’ through those interactions.

It costs nothing yet delivers results money can’t buy. It leaves people better off than they were and is just the kind of person we were made to be.
